Timothy Hatcher, Director of Bands
Mr. Hatcher is
in his first year as Director of Bands at Davenport Central High School.
He holds a master’s of music education degree from the University of
Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and a bachelor’s degree in music, with an
emphasis in both clarinet performance and music education, from Oregon
State University. Prior to coming to Central, Mr. Hatcher student taught
with the nationally recognized band programs at Niles North High School
and Oliver McCracken Middle School in Skokie, IL
During his time at the
University of Illinois, Mr. Hatcher was a graduate teaching assistant in
both the music education department and band department. He assisted
with the instruction of the Marching Illini, as well as assisted in
conducting the concert bands. His performance highlights included
performing with the University of Illinois Wind Symphony, under the
direction of James Keene, at Carnegie Hall in New York and Orchestra
Hall at Symphony Center in Chicago
At Oregon State
University, Mr. Hatcher performed with the OSU-Corvallis Symphony
Orchestra, served as principal clarinetist with the OSU Symphonic Wind
Ensemble, and played tenor saxophone with the Jazz Ensemble. Also, he
was highly involved with the OSU Marching Band as a baritone player
before becoming drum major, in which he conducted the band at many
performances, including numerous bowl games
In addition, Mr. Hatcher
is a drum corps alumnus with the Seattle Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps. He
has been a guest clinician with high school and middle school bands
throughout Oregon and Illinois. And, he has taught clarinet privately
for 8 years
Mr. Hatcher is a native
of suburban Portland, Oregon. In his spare time he enjoys being a sports
fanatic by cheering for the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Portland
Trailblazers, and his alma maters, the OSU Beavers and Fighting Illini.
Cory Hanson, Assistant Band Director
Cory is originally from Dubuque, IA, where he graduated from Wahlert
High School in 2003. He received his B.A. degree in Music Education from
Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA. His principal instruments are
bass trombone and bass guitar. In western Iowa, he kept a busy schedule
of performing, recording, and teaching. He is very excited to be a part
of the Davenport Central High School family, and is looking forward to a
wonderful year.
Brian Zeglis, Percussion Instructor
Brian graduated Summa Cum
Laude with a B.A. in Music Business with a marketing minor from Western
Illinois University. He also completed a six-month internship with the
Percussive Arts Society. Zeglis then received his M.M. in Jazz Studies
with emphasis on drum set performance from the University of North
Texas. He was fortunate to study with world-renowned performer/educator
Ed Soph and play with the 3:00 Lab Band.
Brian taught as an
assistant band director/percussion specialist at Pilot Point ISD while
attending UNT. He has taught summer marching band camps at Davenport
Central; Hillsboro, MO; Pilot Point, TX; and Union, MO. He has also
co-conducted rhythm section master classes at the Illinois All-State
Convention, WIU Jazz Fest, and at numerous high schools throughout
Illinois and Texas.
**Brian
Zeglis is the percussion specialist at Davenport Central High School.
He is also serving as adjunct faculty at Knox College in Galesburg, IL.
Recently, Brian was hired as percussion staff for the Dubuque Colt
Cadets drum & bugle corps. He currently holds an endorsement deal
through Vic Firth Cari Poskin, Guard Instructor
Cari grew up in Naperville, Illinois but considers herself an Iowan at
heart. She graduated from Naperville Central HS in 1998. Poskin attended
the University of Northern of Iowa for both her undergraduate and
master’s degrees. She has her BA in Social Science Secondary Education
and received her MA in Special Education. This year will be Cari’s
second year as a special education teacher at DCHS and her first year as
guard coach. Cari had dance training for 10 years then added
cheerleading and color guard. In high school she was a member of the
Spirits flag team for four years and was an officer her senior year. She
is very excited to be working with this wonderful group and is looking
forward to a successful season |
